| In 1991, I began to cut color plates from books into strips and weave them together to make these early works. |
Obsessed with the 500th anniversary of Columbus arrival in the New World, I focused on conquests and the cultural hegemony of Europe. |
The first nine pieces I made from woven color plates were abstractions, and Mary Birds was the first work I placed in a gold leafed frame. |
