Mandorla, Scott Bodenheimer 1991, woven color plates, 12" x 8", 31 x 20cm
The title “Mandorla” comes from the Italian word for “almond”, and refers to the large body encompassing halo depicted in Medieval and early Renaissance art. This work uses images from the Passion and Resurrection of Christ to form a swirling nimbus. This was the first piece I made using religious imagery.
